Nova Fades customer case study

From static buffers to a travel-aware mobile barber diary.

Nova Fades is a solo mobile barber serving customers across London. Its previous Calendly setup could reserve the same travel gap for a customer on the next road and one much farther away. CalMov was built to make that availability respond to the actual journey.

The diary problem in one journey

A two-minute drive was blocking twenty minutes.

In one example around The Greenway area, an existing customer and the next booking were on neighbouring roads. The static setup still reserved 20 minutes for travel even though the journey took about 2 minutes. That left 18 minutes unavailable to customers without making the route more reliable.

Before CalMov

Static buffers needed manual supervision.

Customers booked through Calendly. Travel was not calculated from the surrounding addresses; Nova Fades used fixed 10- or 20-minute buffers instead. The rule was easy to apply, but it treated short and long journeys alike.

When the fixed time was too generous, useful parts of the diary stayed unavailable. When it was too short, Narayan had to intervene, move bookings or message customers to explain an early or late arrival. He estimates that scheduling administration occupied about 8 hours in a typical week.

Why one fixed buffer could not solve it

  • A nearby customer lost the same travel allowance as a distant one.
  • A longer journey could still exceed the protected time.
  • Manual booking moves were needed when the route and calendar disagreed.
  • Customer arrival messages became part of ordinary diary management.

The CalMov approach

Availability changes with the journey it creates.

CalMov’s Pro travel checks use the customer location, service duration and the appointments around a proposed slot. Nearby bookings no longer need to inherit the allowance required by a longer journey, while distant appointments can receive more protection where the route needs it.

Address-aware booking

The customer location becomes part of the availability decision before confirmation.

Both journeys considered

The proposed visit must fit after the previous booking and before the next confirmed one.

A diary Narayan can adjust

Manual bookings remain available when a customer needs help or an exception makes sense.

This was not a standard software rollout with a normal setup time. CalMov was first developed around the Nova Fades scheduling problem, then turned into a product that other mobile businesses could configure for their own services and travel areas.

Narayan, the mobile barber behind Nova Fades

Meet the customer

Narayan runs Nova Fades from a fitted mobile barber van.

As a solo barber, Narayan manages the haircut, the drive and the customer diary himself. Nova Fades serves customers across London with skin fades and haircuts at their location, so every bookable time has to work as part of a real route.

The van is the working barber shop. CalMov’s job is to make sure the appointment schedule accounts for getting it from one customer to the next, without forcing every booking to carry the same fixed travel allowance.

Customer-reported outcomes

Less diary administration and fewer manual moves.

These figures are approximate estimates reported by Nova Fades, not independently audited measurements. They describe Narayan’s experience from January 2026 onward and should not be treated as a guaranteed result for another business.

About 8 → ≤1 hour

Weekly scheduling admin

Narayan’s approximate before-and-after estimate.

18 minutes

Made available in one nearby-booking example

A 20-minute static buffer protected a journey that took about two minutes.

1–5 minutes

Reported arrival range around booked time

A customer-reported operating pattern, not an arrival guarantee.

Booking changes

Manual booking moves went from frequent to rare. Narayan may still add a customer himself when needed, but that is an exception rather than the diary’s normal operating method.

Available appointment times

Nova Fades reports seeing more useful booking options because nearby journeys no longer automatically lose the time reserved for a longer trip. No booking-volume or revenue percentage has been claimed.

What this case study does—and does not prove

It shows how one London mobile barber replaced a fixed-buffer workflow with travel-aware availability and reported a substantial reduction in weekly scheduling administration. It does not prove that every barber will save the same amount of time, gain the same availability or arrive inside the same range.
