How to

Take payments online or at the appointment

Customers can pay you at the appointment on any plan. Connect Stripe so they can also pay online when they book: it's included on Pro, and Lite can add it as an upgrade.

Which plan

Paying at the appointment is on every plan. Online payment through Stripe is included on Pro. On Lite, add the Online payments upgrade in Settings, in Your plan: there's no monthly charge, and CalMov keeps a 30p fee from each paid booking. Online payments are live for UK businesses; US card payments launch separately. Memberships and vouchers are Pro.

What customers see

Without Stripe, customers book and pay you at the appointment. With Stripe connected, customers can choose Pay now on the last step and pay the full amount through Stripe's secure checkout. It's always their choice: there's no way to make paying online compulsory, and no deposits.

Set it up

  1. Step 1: Open Payments

Go to Payments. The Payment options tab opens first. "Payment at the appointment" is already available for your bookings, with nothing to set up.

  2. Step 2: On Lite, switch on the upgrade

On Lite, Payments says "Stripe is locked on Lite" with an Unlock online payments link. It opens Settings, in Your plan, where "Lite upgrades" has an Online payments row: press Turn on. During your free Pro trial, and on Pro, this step isn't needed.

  3. Step 3: Start Stripe setup

Under Online payments, press Set up online payments. You're sent to Stripe to connect your account.

  4. Step 4: Answer Stripe's questions

Stripe asks for the details it needs to pay you. If you stop part-way, come back to Payments and press Continue Stripe setup.

  5. Step 5: Check Stripe is connected

When setup is complete, Payments says Stripe is connected and that payments are sent to your Stripe account. Open Connection details to see whether charges and payouts are enabled.

  6. Step 6: Set your refund windows and fees

Go to Booking page, open the Policies tab and press Edit under Customer changes. Tick "Allow customers to reschedule" or "Allow customers to cancel" to add those links to confirmation emails. Under "Advanced refund and fee rules", set "Free cancellation before (hours)", "Partial refund before (hours)" and "Partial refund (%)" for refunds of online payments, and tick "Enable late-cancellation / no-show charging" to set a late-cancellation window, a late-cancellation fee and a no-show fee. Press Save policy.

  7. Step 7: Offer memberships and vouchers (Pro)

In Payments, open the Memberships & vouchers tab to set them up.

Common questions

Do I need Stripe to take bookings?

No. Customers can book and pay you at the appointment without Stripe. Stripe is only for online payment.

Is online payment on the free plan?

Yes, as an upgrade. On Lite, switch on Online payments under Lite upgrades in Settings, in Your plan, then connect Stripe. There's no monthly charge; CalMov keeps 30p from each paid booking on Lite. On Pro, online payments are included with no fee per booking. Paying at the appointment is on every plan.

Where does the money go?

Online payments are sent to your own Stripe account.

Can I make customers pay online when they book?

No. Pay now is a choice on the last step of booking, for the full amount. Customers who don't choose it pay at the appointment. There are no deposits.

Can I charge for late cancellations and no-shows?

Yes, in Booking page, in the Policies tab, with "Enable late-cancellation / no-show charging". A fee can only be taken from a card the customer saved, by paying online or by ticking "Capture card for pay later" when you allow that, so it needs online payments. Refund windows decide how much of an online payment is refunded when a customer cancels.

Home says "Stripe needs more details". What should I do?

Open Payments and finish what Stripe is asking for. Online payments are paused until Stripe has what it needs.
