Set up for your trade

Set up CalMov for your trade

By the end, you'll have the tools that fit your work switched on, your own words on the booking page, and your own questions, checks and checklist in place.

Which plan

Free on Lite: Saved profiles, one time & price question per service (or two combined into one table), Checks before booking, Forms after booking, Visit records with a job timer and your notes, Site & access and Rebooking reminders. Pro adds Photos, the job checklist, the report you send the customer, "We'll review it" and up to 10 time & price questions per service. Lite has up to 2 active services, and Pro has a 14-day free trial with no card.

Your setup, step by step

  1. Step 1: Choose the tools that fit

Open Toolkit. With Other picked under "Your trade", "Back to other defaults" switches every tool on (Photos only on Pro) and "Just bookings" switches them all off. Or switch on only what you need: each tool says what it does, and switching one off hides it without deleting anything.

Switching a tool on in Toolkit and following Set it up. Recorded with example data.
  2. Step 2: Use your own words

Under "Names" in Toolkit, type what you work on in "What you work on", for example Garden, Bike or Piano, and what you call your records in "Visit records are called". Press "Save names". CalMov then uses your word on bookings, customers and your booking page.

  3. Step 3: Set up your services

In Services, set up each service you offer with its time and price. Lite has up to 2 active services, and Pro includes unlimited services.

  4. Step 4: Add a time & price question

In Booking page › Questions, press "Add a question", write the question and set "Answer type" to "Choice" or "Yes or no". Switch on "The answer changes the time or price", choose the services under "Changes the time or price of", and fill in "+ Minutes" and "+ Price" for each answer, for example Large garden: +60 min, +30 on the price. Press "Add question".

Adding a question whose answers change the time and price. Recorded with example data.
  5. Step 5: Add questions for the form after booking

Press "Add a question" again for details that can wait, and keep "In the form after booking" chosen under "When". Under "More options" you can tick "Required", "Highlight the answer on the fact sheet" or "Private: only you and admins can see it". The form is linked in the confirmation email and is due a day before the visit.

  6. Step 6: Add a check if a service needs something first

In Booking page › Checks, open "Add a check" and fill in "What's needed first". Choose "How it's met" ("A test you do, then you record the result", "Something you see, then you record it", "The customer sends a photo when booking" on Pro, or "The customer completes your form after booking"), set the hours before and how long a pass lasts, tick the services under "Needed for" and press "Add check". If nothing you do needs one, leave Checks before booking off in Toolkit.

Adding a check and ticking the services that need it. Recorded with example data.
  7. Step 7: Ask about the site

In Booking page › Questions, find "Site & access" and press "Parking", "Power", "Water", "Space to work" or "Door or key code" for each one you need, then reword them with Edit. Customers answer in the form after booking, and the answers are saved to the address for next time.

  8. Step 8: Set the checklist and rebooking

On Pro, press "Edit the job checklist" under Visit notes in Toolkit, which starts as Arrive and set up, Do the job, Check with the customer. In Services, "Remind customers to rebook after (weeks)" is filled with 4, and you can change it per service or set a one-off service to send no reminders.

Editing the job checklist. Recorded with example data.
  9. Step 9: Try your own booking page

Press "View booking page" in Booking page › Questions. Enter an address, pick a service and answer your questions as a test customer, then open the test booking in Bookings to see what you'd see on the day.

How different trades use it

Mobile bike mechanic
Call what you work on "Bike", add a Choice question for the type of bike that adds time and price, and add "Space to work" from Site & access.
Gardener
Add a Choice question for garden size that adds time and price, and set rebooking to 2 or 4 weeks on your regular service.
Piano tuner
Call what you work on "Piano", ask for the make with "Ask once and remember it" ticked, and set rebooking to 26 or 52 weeks.

Common questions

My trade isn't in the list. Does that matter?

No. The trade only sets the words CalMov uses and which tools "Back to defaults" switches on. With Other you choose your own tools and names, and nothing is switched on by itself.

Why is there no "Suggested for" list on my Questions page?

Suggested questions and checks come with the listed trades. With Other there are none, so add your own with "Add a question" and "Add a check". If a listed trade is close to yours, pick it in Toolkit to see its suggestions.

Which tools should I start with?

Start with the ones that save you a phone call: Time & price questions if jobs vary in size, Site & access if you need parking, power or a door code, and Rebooking reminders if customers come back. You can switch more on later.

Can I switch a tool off later without losing anything?

Yes. Switching a tool off hides it, and nothing is deleted. Switch it back on and what you set up is still there.

What do I need Pro for?

Photos, the job checklist, the report you send the customer, "We'll review it" and more than one time & price question per service. Everything else in this guide works on Lite.
