Toolkit guide

Set time and price by size or condition with questions

Time & price questions let a yes or no or choice question change a service's time and price. Customers see the result as they answer, for example "Full groom: about 1 hr 15 min" with the price beside it.

Which plan

On every plan. Lite has one time and price question per service, or two combined into a table. Pro has up to 10, plus "We'll review it" and Approve first. Switch on Time & price questions in Toolkit first.

What customers see

On your booking page, customers answer the question and see the time and price as they go. If an answer is set to "Can't book online", they're told to get in touch. On Pro, an answer set to "We'll review it" sends you a request and holds the time while you decide.

Set it up

  1. Step 1: Switch on Time & price questions

Go to Toolkit and switch on Time & price questions. Then follow "Set it up in Questions" underneath it.

  2. Step 2: Add a question

Go to Booking page › Questions and press Add a question, or press one under "Suggested for" your trade. Write the question and set Answer type to Choice or Yes or no. For a choice question, fill in the answers and press Add an answer for more.

Adding a question whose answers change the time and price. Recorded with example data.
  3. Step 3: Say which services it changes

Under Asked for, pick the services the question is for, or leave All services. Switch on "The answer changes the time or price". Under "Changes the time or price of", tick each service it should change.

  4. Step 4: Set what each answer adds, service by service

Each service you ticked has its own tab. For each answer, fill in + Minutes and + Price, for example Large: 30 minutes and 15 on the price. Leave an answer empty to add nothing, then press Add question.

  5. Step 5: Combine two questions into a table

First add the second question on its own: a Choice or Yes or no question with 2 to 8 answers, asked for the same services, with "The answer changes the time or price" switched off. Then press Edit on the first question, switch on "The answer changes the time or price", tick the services under "Changes the time or price of" and pick the second question under Combine with. A table appears with the first question's answers down the side and the second's across the top (on a phone, one answer at a time). Each box has Minutes, Price and Then; a box left empty keeps the service's own time and price. Choosing a question under Combine with clears any single-answer amounts, so fill in the table afresh, then press Save question.

  6. Step 6: Stop an answer being booked online

Next to an answer, or a pair in a table, set Then to "Can't book online". Customers who give that answer are told to get in touch. To change the message, go to Services, open How it's booked and edit "When they can't book online, tell them".

  7. Step 7: Review a job before it's confirmed (Pro)

On Pro, set Then to "We'll review it": the customer sends a request and the time is held. Under "Jobs you approve first" on the Questions page, set "Reply within (hours)" from 1 to 72. When a request arrives, open it and press Confirm (changing "Length (minutes)" if you need to), Suggest a different price, Ask a question or Decline.

  8. Step 8: Choose how each service is booked

Go to Services, find the service and open How it's booked. Choose "Book straight away", "Book straight away, as an estimate" or "Approve first" (Pro), then press Save. "Shortest and longest time", Stages and "Ready after the visit" are optional. An estimate is booked at the time and price the answers give: you can reschedule it, and the job timer records how long it really took, but only an "Approve first" request lets you change the length or price before it's confirmed.

How different trades use it

Dog groomers
"Dog size" (Small, Medium, Large, Giant) combined with "Coat condition today" (Good, Some matting, Severe matting). Size goes down the side and coat across the top, and each pair sets the time and price of a full groom.
Car detailers
"Vehicle size" (Small, Saloon or hatchback, SUV or estate, Van or 7-seater) combined with "Interior condition" (Maintained, Moderate, Heavy).
Cleaners
"Bedrooms" (1 to 5 or more) combined with "How long since the last clean?" (Under 2 weeks, 2 to 6 weeks, Longer).
Nail technicians
"Do you have gel or acrylic to remove?" adds time and price for Yes. "Nail art" (None, Simple, Detailed) adds more for detailed work.
Tyre fitters
"How many tyres?" (1 to 4) sets the time and price. "Do you have the locking wheel nut key?" can send a No to "Can't book online".

Common questions

How many time and price questions can I have on Lite?

On Lite, each service can have one time and price question, or two combined into a table. Pro has up to 10.

Which kinds of question can change the time and price?

Yes or no questions and Choice questions. Short text, Long text and Date questions can't change the time or price.

Can a time and price question go in the form after booking?

No. It changes the time or price, so it's always asked when booking. The customer needs to see the result before choosing a time.

What if a customer doesn't know the answer?

In the question, tick Customers can answer "Not sure". Then in Services, under How it's booked, choose what happens: "Book the slowest answer", or on Pro "You review it".

What happens if I don't reply to a request in time?

You choose under "Jobs you approve first": "Release the time and tell the customer", or "Confirm it at the longest time". Requests are a Pro feature.

Why is there nothing to pick under Combine with?

You need another yes or no or choice question with 2 to 8 answers, asked for the same services. It can't already be part of a table, and it can't already change those services' time or price on its own. A service can have one table, and a table is always two questions.

Can two customers be booked while a colour develops?

No. Stages are added together into one visit, and Processing or Waiting stages stay booked, so the developing time is yours and nobody else can book it. Stages add up to the booking's length, and a question's extra minutes can be added to a particular stage.
