Problems CalMov solves
How do I set a service area and charge for travel fairly?
Set your area as a maximum distance from your base, then charge for travel in brackets: nothing for the nearest customers and a set amount beyond that, by miles or by minutes of driving. Show the charge before the customer chooses a time, so nobody is surprised at checkout.
Distance or drive time?
Distance brackets are easy to explain: up to 5 miles free, 5 to 10 miles £5, 10 to 15 miles £10. Drive time brackets suit areas where traffic varies, because 6 miles across a city at 17:00 can take longer than 12 miles of open road.
In CalMov the charge is for the one way journey from your base to the customer, whichever way you measure it. A drive time charge can change with the time of day, so each time shows its own charge.
A worked example
Three customers, three charges
- 1. On Pro, your brackets are up to 5 miles free, 5 to 10 miles £5 and 10 to 15 miles £10, your maximum distance is 15 miles, and Show travel charges before checkout is ticked.
- 2. A customer 3 miles from your base pays no travel charge.
- 3. A customer 8 miles away sees the £5 travel charge as soon as they enter their postcode, and again as its own line before they confirm.
- 4. A customer 18 miles away is told their postcode is outside your area, with your phone number if you've added one.
What to set in CalMov
How far you go
Set a maximum distance in miles and a maximum travel time per journey in Hours & availability, in the Travel tab. Both are checked on Pro, where CalMov places each address.
Travel pricing (Pro)
Tick Apply a travel surcharge, choose Distance (in miles) or Drive time (in minutes), and add a charge for each bracket.
Show travel charges before checkout (Pro)
Tells customers the charge for their postcode as soon as they enter it and puts each time's charge on the time.
A contact for customers outside your area (Pro)
Add an email address or phone number, and the message for a postcode outside your area links to it.
Who this is for
Businesses that cover a wide area and want the price to reflect the trip.
Frequently asked questions
Is the travel charge for one way or the round trip?
One way, from your base to the customer. If you want the drive home covered, set your brackets a little higher.
Can the charge depend on the time of day?
Yes, with drive time brackets on Pro. Each time shows its own charge, and the notice on the postcode step gives a range when the charge differs across the day.
Does Lite include travel charges?
No. Travel pricing is on Pro. Lite keeps a fixed travel gap between bookings that you set.
Can someone outside my area still reach me?
Yes. Add a contact for customers outside your area, and the message they see links to your email or phone so they can ask you directly.
