Problems CalMov solves

How should a one-person business schedule home visits?

Schedule home visits by driving time, not by the clock. Let the visits you already have decide which times you offer next, so a new customer near your 10:00 visit gets a time next to it and one across town only gets a time with room for the drive.

What changes when you go to the customer

A diary built for a shop assumes you are always in the same place. With home visits, where you are at 11:00 depends on who you saw at 10:00, so the same free hour can suit one customer and be impossible for another.

Three settings do most of the work: where you start from, how far you will go, and how much time each journey needs. The rest is your working hours and how long each visit really takes, including setting up and packing away.

A worked example

A morning of home visits

  1. 1. You start from your base at 9:00. Your first customer is 6 miles away, about 18 minutes, and their visit runs 9:30 to 10:30.
  2. 2. Your next confirmed visit is at 12:30, 4 miles beyond the first.
  3. 3. A new customer 2 miles from the first can book a 45 minute visit at 11:00: the drive in, the visit and the drive on to 12:30 all fit.
  4. 4. A customer 15 miles the other way isn't offered a time in that gap, because the drive there and back to your 12:30 visit would not fit.

What to set in CalMov

Your base and how far you go

Set your base postcode, a maximum distance in miles and, if you like, a maximum travel time for each journey, in Hours & availability, Travel. On Pro, CalMov places each customer's address and checks both before a time is chosen.

Visits that include setting up

Each service has its own length, with preparation and clean-up time if you need it, so CalMov reserves one continuous block for each visit.

Travel between visits

Lite keeps a fixed travel gap that you set. Pro works out the drive from the visit before and on to the visit after, with expected traffic, and from your base for the first visit of the day.

Nudge customers towards your route

On Pro, Eco times marks the few times that add the least driving to your day with a leaf. Every time stays available.

Who this is for

Practitioners and specialists who see customers in their own homes, one visit after another.

Frequently asked questions

Should I give each area its own day?

It can help, but it turns away customers who could have fitted on another day. Offering times next to visits you already have gets much of the benefit without closing days to anyone. On Pro, Show the days you're nearby marks the days you are already working near the customer.

Does CalMov reorder my visits to save driving?

No. It checks each new booking against the visits before and after it. It doesn't move visits that are already booked.

Can I stop very long journeys?

Yes. Set a maximum distance from your base and a maximum travel time per journey. Both are checked on Pro, where CalMov works out where each address is and how long the drive takes.
